Dmitry (#8),
As you are well aware, Ubuntu uses the bleeding edge kernels, and one of
the nice things about devel packages was that, when they were being
released on a more frequent rate), the devel releases where more quicker
to adapt to the newest (release candidate) kernels.
I know stable releases are better (you keep reminding me). But I'm kind
of impatient, and I would like to get to stop the module build failures
as fast as possible. And like I said, the joy of the devel releases was
that I would only have to wait a month (or so) to see if compatibility
for X kernel was added (in the devel package). If it was, I could test
it, create the merge proposal, and (after approval) wait for the next
problem to arise.
And since the git repo doesn't updates as I fast I would like to, I
can't simply grab fixes (patches) for the broken package. I have to wait
from a patch from someone (who's better with the kernel than I am), to
fix the problem.
I'm gonna stop there before I confuse you more. But before I do, I want
to ask two things.
1) How are other Distributions responding when you're asking them to move to the Stable packaging?
2) The file needed for compatibility with 3.12 is VMware own version of the uidgid.h file. I want to wrap up the 3.12 issues before I start tackling the 3.13 stuff.
