I'd say that if someone really wants that, they should use a hook to
create the symlink.

I don't think we want this behaviour by default however as it tends to
be very confusing for users.

Known issues (as found when ubuntu touch was similarly abusing this):
 - Requires root access to read any of the files
 - Various syscalls will fail on such paths (one such example is that you can't bind-mount a subdir of such a symlink)
 - Having one of those paths open when the container dies may prevent some resources from getting destroyed, leading to crashes.
