[Bug 1179966] [NEW] Old buggy version of pika crashes often

Public bug reported:

I ran in to a lot of problems using pika, it seems that version 0.9.5
distributed with every current Ubuntu version (including raring) is
quite old and full of bugs.  Therefor, it has trouble sustaining a
connection to the broker.

Upgrading to 0.9.12 fixed my issues, but I had to use pip
