Public bug reported:
I use etckeeper 0.61ubuntu2 and git 1:1.7.9.5-1 in precise. "etckeeper
unclean" returns wrong information, in fact, I have never managed for it
to tell me the directory contains uncommited changes.
$ sudo git status
# On branch master
# Changes to be committed:
# (use "git reset HEAD <file>..." to unstage)
#
# modified: .etckeeper
# deleted: cups/subscriptions.conf
#
# Changes not staged for commit:
# (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed)
# (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory)
#
# modified: .etckeeper
# modified: apt/sources.list
#
$ sudo etckeeper unclean
