Due to what needs to happen, can this wait till 14.04?
14.04 is an LTS and will ship in April with 5 years of support. 13.10
will only have 9 months of support.
After fully understanding what is being asked here, it is subtaintial work. Specifically:
1. A new package will have to be generated from linux-extras and include upstart
2. That package will need a udeb to be included on the installer CD
3. It will need to be added to the cdimage
While this may not sound like a lot of work, it is. And it is work that
should be done early in the kernel cycle. The bigger problem here is
that since the tools in question rely on a specfic ABI of the kernel, it
is not easy to break it out. Basically we're talking about having to
build a seperate package off the kernel package. Ideally, it would be
great to have a stable API provided through the module that doesn't
change which make kernel ABI concerns moot.
