I did a do-release-upgrade -d today and it crashed on sysstat. 
/var/lib/dpkg/info/sysstat.config: 1: /etc/default/sysstat: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string

an sudo aptitude purge sysstat
sudo aptitude install sysstat
fixed the problem
