Hello Robin,

That error message sounds ominous but should not a problem. It relates
to one small part of the system.

If the update had finished, and you can still boot and log in, then I
would go into the Software Center and type in the name "samba", install
it, and be done with it.

If the update did not finish, and there are some stability issues with
logging in, then I would re-install Ubuntu, but I would make certain to
choose the right installation option. You want the one that preserves
all your data but refreshes the system and the programs. You do not want
the one that wipes out the hard drive and starts from scratch.

For what it's worth, the next version of Ubuntu/Kubuntu is coming out
this month and has many stability improvements. I'm actually running the
beta version of Kubuntu 12.04 and it's running great.
