@Tom, thanks for your detailed report and looking into it.  I think i
have found the Debian bug where this was discussed and resolved.  I've
added the Debian bug, and marked this Fix Released, and opened a task
for Lucid.

Next step, A minimal patch needs to be created based on the pure fix for
this issue.
