Where did you get the libvirt 0.8.8 package for 10.04 ?
The version of libvirt in 10.04 is 0.7.5-5ubuntu27.11 (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt).

libvirt needs a newer kernel, or other dependency that isn't there on
10.04.

I'm marking this "Won't Fix" as we don't really support newer versions
of software.

If I've mis-diagnosed this, please do re-open the bug stating why.
Alternatively, you could request a backport of this version of kvm to lucid (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports).
