On my Natty this bug is reproducable. I've got the same error as
Manfred.

Distro: Ubuntu 11.04
Package: slapd 2.4.23-6ubuntu6

Error:
Creating initial configuration... mkdir: cannot create directory `/etc/ldap/slapd.d': File exists
