Hello ButterflyOfFire, thank you for taking the time to file this bug
report and help us make Ubuntu better!

There seems to be some problem with your server, note the errors:

sudo: cannot get working directory
...
sh: getcwd() failed: No such file or directory
sh: getcwd() failed: No such file or directory
sh: getcwd() failed: No such file or directory

Is it possible that the directory you were in was deleted?

try logging out entirely, and then logging back in, and then

start mysql

Also you should have more information available in
/var/log/mysql/mysql.log, if you could upload that file that would be
helpful as well.

Let us know if that worked out for you.

Marking Incomplete pending response.

** Changed in: mysql-5.1 (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete
