Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.  This bug has been fixed
in both the latest release (10.10/Maverick) and the current development
release (Natty).

Please can you confirm if the dangling symlinks are causing an issue
with functionally with the application on 10.04 / Lucid?

If it's not causing an issue, then it might be hard to justify against the Stable Release Updates (SRU) process, as documented:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/

Marking incomplete, pending clarification if it's causing issues on
Lucid.
