I started Mysql server with with command /etc/rc.d/mysqld start

and then I am trying to connect to SQL data base, with command "#mysql "
it is giving showing that ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local
MySQL server through '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)Can't connect to local MySQL
server through '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2).

I check out few forums they to use "#mysql -u root -p",

when I issue this command it is giving the output

Enter password:
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)'
