Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better, Brian.  Unfortunately AMD support definately seems to have some
holes compared to intel.  Though until now all the breakages I've seen
have been with 32-bit support, so this is interesting.

Could you try with the back-ported kvm from https://launchpad.net
/~ubuntu-virt/+archive/ppa/+packages and see if you fare any better?
