[Bug 810731] Re: MySQL Server installation crashed, now unable to remove MySQL server and Client Binaries

After doing the update from the command line I still cannot remove or
install MySQL server or the client binaries. After each attempt I am
still getting the message that the software index needs to be rebuilt. I
do the rebuild only to get the same result.

Could you try the following on a terminal:

   sudo apt-get update

And tell us if the problem continues after that?

If it fixes the problem, then I'd next like to look at your
/var/log/apt/term.log and /var/log/dpkg.log of clues as to what went
wrong originally.
