I'm on Ubuntu 10.04, Lucid Lynx.

uname -a
Linux raja 2.6.32-25-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 19:52:42 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

follow symlinks = yes
wide symlinks = yes
unix extensions = no

in /etc/samba/smb.conf

Symlinks are not getting followed on the server.  My Mac can seem them
but can't follow them.  (They're not wide, either).  I also tried
xapient's suggestion of installing samba-tools, smbfs, libpam-mount, and
winbind.
