There are RPC services which were registered with the portmapper
before the configuration was changed.
You need to manually restart them in order for the changes to take effect.

This suggests that file descriptors may have gotten crossed between
maintainer scripts in connection with debconf.  Reassigning this bug to
samba, since samba-common-bin is the package outputting the update-
alternatives lines that appear to have gotten crossed.
