According to the dpkg terminal log file:

Removing mysql-server ...
dpkg: error processing mysql-server-5.1 (--remove):
 Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should
 reinstall it before attempting a removal.

How did you try to remove mysql-server package? Which command did you
use?

   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Changed in: mysql-dfsg-5.1 (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete
