I think the problem is the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.1/+bug/522185
I had the same and I fixed it with :
sudo killall mysqld
sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop
sudo apt-get upgrade
