I think comment #121 workaround will only work if you are using GDM,
this bug affects KDE and other desktop environment users as well.

Comment #120 states
I *think* that this bug is only apparent now if :
a) You're mounting remote NFS/CIFS shares by specifying them in /etc/fstab AND
b) You're using WIFI to connect to said shares and you forget to disconnect/unmount the shares before shutting down.

But I should add an option - which is how the bug is apparent to me
* You're mounting CIFS shares using mount.cifs, using WIFI to connect with the shares and the shares are not being unmounted before shutdown. In that case I get the dreaded wait before shutdown and a screenful of nice coloured vertical lines.

Yep, nearly two years on this one. Maybe Ubuntu should bake a cake and
have a party on the 4th of April.
