Hello,
not sure to which package this belongs (snmpd/networking/upstart??).
just noticed with ubuntu-server arch x64 on HPDL380G6 2 CPU quad core
that snmpd (X5560 @ 2.80GHz) , snmpd which is bound on specific IP
adresses) starts actually after configuring the interface.
I suppose when (as default) snmpd binds on * it won't fail.
networking seems to start via upstart:
the resulting, relevant syslog:
Jun 4 11:22:55 hpdl380g6 snmpd[1113]: error finding row index in _ifXTable_container_row_restore
Jun 4 11:22:55 hpdl380g6 snmpd[1113]: error finding row index in _ifXTable_container_row_restore

Jun 4 11:22:55 hpdl380g6 snmpd[1113]: Error opening specified endpoint "XX.XX.XX.XX"
Jun 4 11:22:55 hpdl380g6 snmpd[1113]: Server Exiting with code 1
root at hpdl380g6:/var/log# grep prdif messages
Jun 4 11:22:55 hpdl380g6 kernel: [ 5.894070] udev: renamed network interface eth0 to prdif
Jun 4 11:22:56 hpdl380g6 kernel: [ 6.678310] bnx2: prdif: using MSI
Jun 4 11:22:56 hpdl380g6 kernel: [ 6.679423] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): prdif: link is not ready
Jun 4 11:22:56 hpdl380g6 kernel: [ 6.699043] bnx2: prdif NIC SerDes Link is Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex
Jun 4 11:22:56 hpdl380g6 kernel: [ 6.700053] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): prdif: link becomes ready
You can see using udev, to rename the nics, in this same second snmpd
starts, but in a second later the interface seems actually configured.
in case it matters, the prdif NIC is actually a trunk, didn't notice it
(yet) on another interface.
the part of he nic in /etc/networking/interfaces
iface prdif.382 inet static
address XX.XX.XX.XX
netmask 255.255.255.248
vlan_raw_device prdif
ip-proxy-arp 0
ip-rp-filter 0
iface prdif.7 inet static
# post-up sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.prdif/7.autoconf=0
address XX.XX.XX.XX
netmask 255.255.254.0
vlan_raw_device prdif
ip-proxy-arp 0
ip-rp-filter 0
iface prdif.7 inet6 static
# pre-up modprobe ipv6
address XX:XX:XX::XX:XX
netmask 64
vlan_raw_device prdif
ip-proxy-arp 0
ip-rp-filter 0
So perhaps i made a mistake withing /etc/networking/interfaces, if not (and i think that is) it is a BUG.
Restarting/testing is some efford as it is a production machine.
Regards,
Arjan Filius
