Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: samba
Updated as at approximately 4am 7th September 2009 GMT
When playing media from a Samba share, about 5 minutes (this varies)
will play and then stop. This happens with both MP3 files and MP4 videos
(TED talks)
When copying several GB of files from a samba share to locally, the copying stalls with a message along the lines of "Cannot locate file "smb://10.1.1.2/Docos/TED/blah.MP4" and offers a dialog to skip, autoskip, or cancel. In this case, there is a partial file (size varies - it could be ~18MB or ~170MB of a 240MB file) in the destination directory.
Copying just the file if failed to copy and pasting it into the directory works fine, even while the original operation continues.
I have updated the BIOS, added a different ethernet card, swapped
cables, and tried a 100MBit rather than Gigabit switch, and it makes no
difference.
Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 5 from a USB stick plays the media perfectly on this
hardware, for reference, and I am therefore confused as to what has gone
wrong in Kubuntu (linking smbclient to kioslaves or dolphin) as opposed
to Ubuntu (where smbclient works fine with gvfs & nautilus)
Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release: 9.10
smbclient:
Installed: 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu2
Candidate: 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu2
Version table:
*** 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu2 0
500 http://nz.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
I have been unable to find anything in KSystemLog that appears helpful
or relevant to the file transfer stall.
Intel E5200 CPU on Gigabyte G43 motherboard with 2GB DDR2-800, 40GB IDE
drive (scrounged from dead laptop)
