Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbfs

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS
Release: 8.04

smbfs:
  Installed: 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.9
  Candidate: 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.9
  Version table:
 *** 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.9 0
        500 http://apt hardy-updates/main Packages
        500 http://apt hardy-security/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 0
        500 http://apt hardy/main Packages

What I expect to happen:

When unmounting a CIFS share, I expect /etc/mtab to be updated to
reflect the current status of the system (i.e. that that mountpoint is
no longer active).

What actually happens:

umount.cifs works in that the mount is detached, and no longer shows up
in /proc/mounts. However, the stale entry is left in /etc/mtab, which
makes the output of the 'mount' command misleading at best.

** Affects: samba (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
