This may be another related bug :

Either this is coming from upstream, or it's an error on the part of the
ubuntu packaging in karmic.   php5-zlib is missing (extension zlib.so)
in Karmic Beta, and affects various other plugins.  This is annoying on
desktop, and critical for server.
