Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

Requiring users to compile / maintain their own versions of PHP to make
use of some of the basic functionality of the language is ridiculous.
PCNTL is terribly useful and already enabled for the CLI version. The
only change to the current build process would be the addition of the
--enable-pcntl flag.

I'm using Karmic, but this has been a problem for years.

** Affects: php5 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
