Here is the relevant part of the logs:

Merging changes into the new version Conflicts found! Please edit `/etc/samba/smb.conf' and sort them out manually. The file `/etc/samba/smb.conf.ucf-new' has a record of the failed merge of the configuration file.

You apparently failed to merge the old and new configuration files. I'd
advise to edit the /etc/samba/smb.conf file contents to your liking and
run "sudo dpkg --configure -a".
