Could you have a look at the CIFS timeout part ? Do you think it's possible to have CIFS more gracefully handle the case where the network is being pulled out from under it ? I can reproduce the issue with the current jaunty kernel, so this wasn't "fixed" as of the 2.6.28 we use. Or maybe it's in the userspace side ?
