I've managed to semi-reproduce it again, although this time against a
Samba server. I mounted it using "sudo mount -t cifs
'\\192.168.1.130\Public' /mnt/temp" , and then while doing "cat
/dev/zero >> /mnt/temp/temp" in another terminal, I called "shutdown -h
-P now" through SSH on the Samba server. The terminal with "cat
/dev/zero >> /mnt/temp/temp" is now hanging, and now I call "sudo umount
/mnt/temp".
The only difference is that this time I can't get it to hang; it stops
on its own after a while. I'm going to keep messing with it though.
