Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Tried to restart but eventually did a recovery reboot. This went to
command line, asked to restart. I'm ashamed to say that I cannot
remember the root password, so forced computer shutdown on power
button. Restarted, the system did fsck, then on logging on there was a
message briefly to the effect that an upgrade had failed, this led me
down the path to Launchpad. Hopefully the data collected tells you which
package failed.
