It looks like you are having bigger problems:

Dec  2 20:08:05 ubuntu mysqld_safe[22657]: /usr/sbin/mysqld: error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Try running sudo ldconfig -v
