Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: samba
With samba installed on 9.10 on my server, atlas, I am able to connect
from another system running an earlier version of Kubuntu using the
command "smbclient //atlas/rozen". However, other systems on my local
network cannot including one running XP and one running OS X Snow
Leopard. I am able to communicate between the 9.10 server and the OS X
boxes via xtightvncviewer and ncftp clients. The OS X box reports the
following error to the command "smbclient //atlas/rozen:
NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME perhaps suggesting that the server is not
broadcasting the name atlas. The XP system reports: "Network path
\\atlas\rozen could not be found." and the server does not show up on
the XP list of Network Computers.
If I run the 9.10 LiveCD and install samba, I am able to connect from
all the systems on the network. It appears that one of the system
updates has adversely affected my 9.10 samba installation. It is the
same be the same version of samba in both cases (2.3.4.0-3) using the
same smb.conf.
atlas is not running a firewall.

samba:
Installed: 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1
Candidate: 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1
Version table:

Needless to say, this problem severely impacts my network.
