I am not sure I understand the issue fully, so please bear with me if I
am missing something.

Since the ad idmap backend *is* read-only, isn't it to be expected that
you cannot change the "mapping" ?  Was it even possible in an earlier
version of Samba?

I am also curious about what you are trying to achieve.  Are you trying
to override the uid handed out from the AD for a specific user on a
specific machine?
