[Bug 274233] [NEW] Unable to login, GDM or console

I am unable to login at all.

In GDM I am returned to the GDM login screen. If I exit to the consle
the login prompt displays correctly but am unable to login there too. It
replies with the following (not verbatim):

/usr/lib/sendmail: No such file or directory
"./dead.letter" 106/3871
. . . message not sent
