I don't see any way that this is a question of incorrect maintainer
script handling. This diff:

cannot be a result of the maintainer script changing anything, you must
have already had this 'interfaces' line manually set in smb.conf.
And therefore this is a configuration error, because it is not
meaningful to run nmbd on non-broadcast interfaces, and you haven't
listed any other interfaces that are broadcast interfaces on your
'interfaces' line.
