Following advice in comment 10, I rollbacked the changes made in
clilist.c and built a new package for Intrepid...

Could people affected by this bug test the samba-2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4~ppa1 package in my PPA:

and report success/failure/adverse side-effects.
