Could you test with smbclient using the following command line :

  smbclient //SERVER_NAME/SHARE_NAME -N -c 'recurse; mget
DIRECTORY_NAME/'

replacing SERVER_NAME, SHARE_NAME and DIRECTORY_NAME with your values ?
