Ubuntu Security Notice USN-6612-1
January 29, 2024

tinyxml vulnerability

A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 23.10
- Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Available with Ubuntu Pro)
- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Available with Ubuntu Pro)

TinyXML could be made to crash if it opened a specially crafted file.

Software Description:
- tinyxml: A simple, small, minimal, C++ XML parser

It was discovered that TinyXML incorrectly handled certain inputs. If a
user or an automated system were tricked into opening a specially crafted
XML file, a remote attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a
denial of service.

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:

Ubuntu 23.10:
  libtinyxml2.6.2v5 2.6.2-6ubuntu0.23.10.1

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS:
  libtinyxml2.6.2v5 2.6.2-6ubuntu0.22.04.1

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Available with Ubuntu Pro):
  libtinyxml2.6.2v5 2.6.2-3ubuntu0.1~esm2
