Ubuntu Security Notice USN-4500-1
September 15, 2020

bsdiff vulnerabilities

A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

bsdiff could be made to crash or run programs as your login if it
opened a specially crafted file.

Software Description:
- bsdiff: generate/apply a patch between two binary files

It was discovered that bsdiff mishandled certain input. If a user were tricked
into opening a malicious file, an attacker could cause bsdiff to crash or
potentially execute arbitrary code.

Update instructions:

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS:
  bsdiff                          4.3-15+deb8u1build0.16.04.1

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
