Ubuntu Security Notice USN-3913-1
March 21, 2019
p7zip vulnerabilities
==========================================================================
A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:
- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Summary:
p7zip could be made to crash or run programs as your login if it
opened a specially crafted file.
Software Description:
- p7zip: 7z file archiver with high compression ratio
Details:
It was discovered that p7zip did not correctly handle certain malformed
archives. If a user or automated system were tricked into processing a specially
crafted archive with p7zip, then p7zip could be made to crash, possibly leading
to abitrary code execution.
Update instructions:
The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS:
p7zip 9.20.1~dfsg.1-4.2ubuntu0.1
p7zip-full 9.20.1~dfsg.1-4.2ubuntu0.1
In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
