Alan,
I have been fielding request by members of the Beginners Team in regards to
the screencast team and i want to get the ball moving forward in some
fashion ta allow members to contribute. The Beginners Team is a fairly large
and robust team made up of individuals with a diverse set of skills. We have
what we call Focus Groups that work on Documentation, Bug Reporting, The
Ubuntu Forum, Ubuntu Development, IRC live support and much more. One of our
FG helped to start the Ubuntu Community Learning Project. Since that group
started that project they have been looking for a role to replace the void
left by the responsibilities that were transferred to UCLP. I think the
Ubuntu Screencast Team would be a great way for this group of individuals
dedicated to creating educational resources for Ubuntu to fill this gap.
I am Lead of a Focus Group in the Beginners Team called the launchpad Focus
Group. We do what i like to call Educate and Participate in all things
Launchpad. One of our first tasks is to increase the amount of documentation
about the Launchpad Tools. One resource Launchpad has that has been way
underdeveloped is a YouTube channel. The Launchpad FG would like to build on
this resource and at the same time port these videos over to be used on the
Screencast Team resources.
Also there has been talk, and at this point not much more, about a
screencast app. There have been a lot of recent projects aimed at
streamlining resources and bringing tools to your desktop. Lernid, Quickly,
Acire, Groundcontrol, all great resources. Jono Bacon mentioned in a recent
videocast a desire to see something like this for screencasting. A tool
integrated into your Desktop that allows users to access screencasts. I
think this is wonderful idea and i would like to spend more time developing
this idea and eventually see it come to life.
I hope I have got you excited about some of the capabilities and ideas the
Beginners Team can bring to the table. I look forward to helping you move
the team forward in any way possible. Please let me know if there is
anything i can do.
