# Proposal to have option to use debian package as a source of image-definitions

A bit of history here: https://code.launchpad.net/~tchavadar/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd-rootfs/+merge/464550

As part of development efforts of enabling Ubuntu on new platforms, we are trying to follow the same standards as in generic image build infra. We see benefit of being able to use debian package for image definitions as this allows us to trigger livefs builds in private ppa with private information in our image definition files. Since the passing tokens around in livefs build is not clearly defined and as the discussions with Launchpad team in the past enlighten us on not using any sort of private key in livefs build infra. We think having an option to be able to use debian package as a source of image-definition would help us enable the Ubuntu in early stages of enablement projects.

This merge proposal allows us to use a metadata variable which will be set by livefs build.
