[Merge] livecd-rootfs:arbitrary-model-names into livecd-rootfs:ubuntu/master

So, the rationale for proposing this change now is because we'll be adding appliance images to cdimage and those might be quite dynamic. So, I'd really like to be able to pass arbitrary model names to cdimage and have them being built correctly.

For the initial set of appliance images I did a bit of a different change, where I simply supported SUBARCH of "appliance-<MODEL_NAME>", so that I could use arbitrary model names for appliances only. I'm fine with this way of doing things [1], but I then thought to myself: why should I just do this for appliances, where maybe we should switch the whole thing instead?

If you think that we shouldn't do such a big switch yet but instead go with [1], I'm fine with that as well.
