I meant optional as in very few  games will use it.  There  were  DS
games that took advantage of some DSi features but they were few and far
between, and I could see the New 3DS going that way. The  install base
on the  current 3DS is  huge and while the New 3DS has everything (and
more)  of  the old one does, I don't  think many developers would want
to make a game exclusive to  only a small portion of their possible user
base.  Instead I see some  games supporting extra features for the newer
hardware and maybe  a gradual  shift towards  the  New 3DS but I don't
really see  it  completely overtaking the old hardware, especially if
there is a  new handheld  in  the near future.
