Hi,

 Sorry for the delay in getting to this, to answer your questions:

1. The first item in the extended keys list will be the default one highlighted when the user long presses (it gets moved to the centre position when displayed so that the finger is nearest to it). The leftSide/rightSide properties are unrelated to this, they're used to inform a key that it should extend its touch area to encompass any spare space at the left or right of the keyboard.

2. Yes, you can have multiple characters in keys, so "t-" as an extended key option would be fine.
