I see this behavior when using the Intel Wireless 3160, however, when
using a USB TP-Link TL-WN722N, I can connect just fine without getting
the "wlan0: authentication with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx timed out".

@elopio, can you do a similar experiment?
