It appears I was able to restore my deleted connection by adding an
entry via the GUI.  "Network Connections > Add" and then entering the
MAC address for my internal (eth0) card.  I called it 'eth0' and I found
this populated in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/eth0:

[802-3-ethernet]
duplex=full
mac-address=F0:DE:F1:AD:43:91

[connection]
id=eth0
uuid=007a7f12-5291-4248-871f-eaa557dc3ebd
type=802-3-ethernet

[ipv6]
method=auto

[ipv4]
method=auto
