The proposal to merge lp:~qbalazs/installation-guide/trunk into lp:~ubuntu-core-dev/installation-guide/ubuntu has been updated.

I have made some changes to try to bring the installation guide up to speed with the current installation process and with the Debian installation guide.

Revision 517 was a preliminary commit. In the appendix, the chroot-install file was changed in order to add a sentence which would serve to dissuade users who do not have the knowledge required to use the chroot-install method from using it, and a paragraph was added to remove the outdated debootstrap link and direct users to alien. In Boot-Installer, intro-firmware the beginning line 12 was changed from "In many cases" to "In most cases". Boot-New, boot-new was changed to reflect the state of OldWorld power pc support (Iffy at best). Buying-Hardware lines 19 & 20 were changed because "Windows Rebate" gives information of US Govt Energy Credits. Hardware/Installation-Media was altered to bring it in line with the Debian Installation Guide.

Revision 518 & 519 accidentally introduced files which were later removed.

Revision 520 introduces .DS_Store files (again). After the next one I manage to get OSX to stop creating the things. In Chroot-Install Mandrake was changed to Mandriva (Debian made the same change). Because the information in the commented out section of Chroot-Install has been requested, that section is no longer commented out. Bug #1172302, which was a request to add a section detailing "Free Software Only Boot Mode" to boot-installer/parameters has been addressed. Bug #1221356 has been dealt with in boot-usb-files, by removing any ambiguity about what images work with the hd-media installer. Bug # 1019906 and Bug # 1063454 have been addressed by changing line 132 in Post-Install/Kernel-Baking from "fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --revision=custom.1.0 kernel_image" to "fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --revision=custom.1.0.kernel_image". Bug #1030336 was fixed by changing line 59 in preparing/minimum-hardware-reqts from "a lot less then" to "a lot less than".

Rev 521 fails to remove .bzrignore and the .DS_Store files.

Rev 522 is the final and the one that should be merged into mainstream. .DS_Store files are removed as is .bzrignore. Changes mentioned above culminate here.

The only large goal that I had going into this rewrite that did not end up addressed was the issues with the theme. This is due to me not being able to devote as much time to this as I was initially expecting to be able to.

If there are any comments or changes that need to be made to rev 522 before it can be merged into mainstream, let me know and I'll get those done ASAP. There is still work that needs to be done on the guide, but this is at least mostly in line with Debian's guide, and issues that haven't been touched in months have been addressed.
