It could check if launchpad.me is either member/administrator of ubuntu-sponsors like:

if launchpad.me in launchpad.people('ubuntu-sponsors').members or launchpad.me in launchpad.people('ubuntu-sponsors').administrators:

This doesn't account for indirect members of ubuntu-sponsors though.

I think I have another way for it and will update the proposal shortly.
