Backport of upstream commit, handling the case of unset XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR or XDG_DOWNLOADS_DIR.

I’m not quite sure whether I prepared the new package in the right way: Usually I would not have already applied the patch and also not have added .pc/* files but it was done for the previous patches so I tried to keep it consistent. Also I'm not sure whether build2ubuntu1 is the correct new name but build3 sounds wrong...
