I realize this may be a bit controversial. I'm especially interested to hear what the security team has to say about it, as I may not be seeing some problems with this method of getting the passphrase from people and passing it back.

The way that I've determined the controlling terminal is also a little hacky. It might be better to use libproc and a C program to do this long term.
